The PLANET VC-231 is a high-performance Ethernet-over-VDSL2 converter. Its design is based on two core networking technologies: Ethernet and VDSL2 (Very-high-data-rate Digital Subscriber Line 2). VDSL2 technology offers the absolute fastest data transmission speeds over existing copper telephone lines, without the need for rewiring. The VC-231 supports ultra-high performance on existing telephone lines, with speeds of up to 100/100Mbps symmetrical data rate within 300m and 50/2Mbps for 1.4km long-distance connections.

Implements with Existing Telephone Copper Cables

The VC-231 is also a Long Reach Ethernet (LRE) Converter. This converter offers an RJ-45 Ethernet port and an RJ-11 phone jack for the VDSL2 connection. By using the included splitter with the VC-231, you can use a POTS splitter to share existing phone lines. This eliminates the need to replace the existing cable. Simply plug the VC-231 with the splitter into the existing RJ-11 phone jack and you can connect a high-performance VDSL2 network. The VC-231 is ideal for use as an Ethernet extender for an existing Ethernet network.

The VC-231 provides excellent bandwidth to power triple-play devices for home entertainment and communications. With its 100/100Mbps symmetrical data transmission capability, the VC-231 enables a wide range of multimedia services on a local internet connection. Examples include: VOD (Video on Demand), Voice over IP, Video phone, IPTV, Internet caching server, astand learning and so on.

Simple & Flexible Installation

The Ethernet-over-VDSL2 Converter is a plug-and-play design, fully compatible with all network protocols. In addition, the status of each port individually and the entire system can be monitored via the comprehensive diagnostic LEDs on the front panel. The VC-231 has two modes: CPE en COFor applications: CPE mode is used on the client side and CO mode on the central side. The CPE or CO mode can be selected using the built-in DIP switch. For point-to-point connections, a CPE mode VC-231 and a CO mode VC-231 must be used as a pair of converters to establish the connection.

Provides Superior Upstream and Downstream Transmission Performance

The VC-231 also defines a symmetrical band plan for the transmission of upstream and downstream signals. This band plan provides higher transmission quality at short distances for the central side (CO) in symmetrical mode. Generally, when the VC-231 is in profile 17a operating mode, it delivers long-distance transmission with ultra-high performance to the existing telephone line network. When the VC-231 is in 30a mode, it delivers short-distance transmission with upstream and downstream transmission at wire-speed performance.
