High Performance Gigabit Ethernet over Coaxial Solution

To meet the demand for longer distances and higher speeds for Ethernet over Coax, Planet Technology has developed a new-generation Ethernet over Coax converter, the VC-232G. This converter offers one 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ45 port and one BNC female connector in a compact metal housing, making unit placement simple and practical. Working with an existing coax network, the VC-232G delivers perfect bandwidth with a total duplex data rate of up to 300Mbps , which can be extended to a maximum distance of 1.4km . The solution is ideal for extending distance and signal conversion by transmitting Ethernet data from the coax cable over an additional 100 meters of UTP cable for any type of IP network equipment, such as HD IP cameras, wireless access points, NVRs, and digital signage.

Superior Upstream and Downstream Transmission

The VC-232G is based on two-core network technology, Gigabit Ethernet and VDSL2 (Very-high-data-rate Digital Subscriber Line 2). The VC-232G offers stable yet high-speed point-to-point network access with duplex data transmission of 300Mbps. It provides two selectable transmission modes — asymmetric mode or symmetric mode — for the transmission of upstream or downstream signals.

■ Asymmetric mode – downstream to 200Mbps and upstream to 100Mbps
■ Symmetric mode – downstream to 150Mbps and upstream to 150Mbps
The symmetric mode offers a comparable transmission rate both downstream and upstream. On the other hand, the asymmetric mode offers higher transmission quality over shorter distances. In conclusion, the VC-232G provides better upstream performance in symmetric mode, and better downstream performance in asymmetric mode.

IP Ethernet over Long Distance Existing Coaxial Cables

The VC-232G is also a Long Reach Ethernet (LRE) solution that can offer a fast replacement and smooth migration from an existing analog system to a fully digital system. A standard UTP cable can be extended to 100 meters, but with the VC-232G, the distance for Ethernet networks can be extended to as much as 1,400 meters, an ideal solution for the following network applications:

Simple and Flexible Installation

The VC-232G offers two operating modes: client-side CPE and central-side CO, making any network application simple and flexible. The CPE or CO mode can be adjusted using the built-in DIP switch. For a point-to-point connection, one VC-232G must be set to CPE mode and the other to CO mode as a pair to establish the connection. This allows the administrator to easily manage the Ethernet over coaxial cable network, improving long-distance transmission.
