Highly flexible and remotely manageable fiber-optic network for FTTx, ISP MAN/LAN, businesses and campuses
For powerful, advanced fiber-optic functionality and a competitively priced solution, Planet has launched a new managed Media Converter Chassis series, the MC-1610MR / MC-1610MR48. These offer 16 media converter slots and a single management system in a 19-inch rack chassis. The MC-1610MR series is designed for FTTx applications at ISPs, telecoms, campuses, and enterprises.
The MC-1610MR series helps simplify FTTx installations and perfectly meets various requirements. The 16 ports can be flexibly deployed with the PLANET Fast/Gigabit Ethernet Smart Media Converter (FST-8/GST-8 series) to create FTTH (Fiber to the Home), FTTB (Fiber to the Building), or FTTC (Fiber to the Curb) network solutions for ISPs, businesses, or campuses. The MC-1610MR series is a reliable and efficient solution for network applications where distance and installation budget are important considerations.
Variable Central Management
The management functionality provided by the MC-1610MR series allows network administrators to monitor and configure the Media Converter connection status remotely via a web browser or locally via the RS-232 console port. The management interface provides clear visibility and management of the converter's complete status, such as link on/off and port statistics. The MC-1610MR series is ideal for telecom and enterprise applications where multiple fiber links need to be managed and controlled from a central location.
Extremely Reliable Design to ensure continuous operation
The MC-1610MR series supports the optional hot-swappable Redundant Power System (RPS) to ensure continuous operationBoth the MC-1610MR and the MC-1610MR48 are equipped with a 100~240V AC power supply unit and a -48V DC power supply unit, respectively, which are included. To increase reliability, both have a spare power supply slot for that optional purpose. These continuous power systems are specifically designed to meet the requirements of high-tech facilities that require maximum power availability. Furthermore, the included 48V DC power supply makes the MC-1610MR series a high-level device suitable for installation in the electronics room.
Fiber Optic Redundant Link
The link's redundancy, backup, and fault-tolerant capabilities can be significantly improved to ensure network stability. The redundant link is designed for critical networks requiring fiber or copper connections to quickly and automatically recover, such as ISPs, telecoms, hospitals, banks, and large enterprises. If the master converter link is down, it forwards the packet to the slave converter port of the backup pair.
Temperature and Fan Status Monitoring
The Managed Media Converter Chassis is equipped with a temperature sensor and cooling fans to ensure reliable operation. When an abnormal temperature is detected or a fan stops working, the Managed Media Converter Chassis displays the relevant information in the management interface. This helps the administrator manage the media conversion operation.
Flexibility and Expansion
The MC-1610MR series connects up to 16 PLANET Smart Fast/Gigabit Ethernet Converters in a single chassis. With an independent power supply on each slot of the MC-1610MR series, each converter is hot-swappable without interrupting the other converters. Every bay of the Media Converter Chassis can be populated with PLANET's Smart Media Converters. The PLANET FST and GST Smart Media Converter series provide media conversion between copper and FX, SX, and LX optical models for distances from 220m to 120km. This flexibility allows the MC-1610MR series to offer an efficient, cost-effective solution even as the network grows.
